The holiday season is approaching as fast as a speeding bullet - bursting with mixed blessing.

On one hand, it brings family and love ones together, fun and recreation but on the other hand it can bring extra work, stress and money worries.

Here are 10 tips to ensure that your holiday season is full of fun and laughter - not stress and pinching pennies.

1Start preparing now – Instead of leaving everything to the last minute write a list of what needs to be done. For instance shopping, cooking, freezing food and cleaning the guest room or organizing your travel can be started now.

  1. Set a budget – One you can afford and is reasonable – not one society or the media dictates.
  1. Keep it Simple – If you’re having a lot of family and friends for a meal, ask them to bring a plate of food and/or BYO – this will help you with the cost of food and alcohol, and time spent preparing.
  1. Read your junk mail and newspaper - Seek out discounted groceries and gifts.
  1. Shop online - Great discounted gift ideas can be found. www.myshopping.com.au www.dealsdirect.com.au www.oo.com.au www.strawberrynet.com  www.twodollars.com.au  www.dirtcheapcds.com.au
  1. Discount Vouchers -GrabaDiscount offers free discounts vouchers. It’s a free alternative to traditional mediums like the Entertainment Book which people have to pay for. www.grabadiscount.com.au  Other Vouchers -  www.clevercoupons.com.au  www.whypayfullprice.com.au  www.hotdockets.com.au
  1. Make it yourself – Packaged food is often more expensive and doesn’t taste as nice as homemade food. Make gifts yourself for family or friends such as CD’s of your friend’s favourite songs. They’ll love the fact you put in the effort and care.
  1. Buy energy efficient appliances - Purchase high star rated appliances as they use the least amount of energy which will save you money on power bills and also help the environment significantly. It’s often false economy to buy a cheap appliance as they could draw a lot of power, costing you more in the long run.
  1. Stock up during sales time – Shop till you drop during sales periods.  Other times of the year visit Factory Seconds Outlets and Discount Outlets, who also offer huge discounts.
  1.  eBay’s Half.com – Incredible deals on books, movies, music and video games can be found at eBay’s Half.com.  Check it out at www.half.ebay.com
